I like to add electrolytes to my water and that's a recipe for mold if you don't clean it out right away. Later season when it freezes hard every night I ditch the bladder and add a couple collapsible bottles. Not great for larger Hydro Flasks because it might become too heavy for the loop when full. You cannot effectively do this in a bladder. You might have seen Camelbaks on the trails - but this is a lot better because it leverages your existing water bottle which is a lot easier to clean and much better insulated than the Camelbak. This adapter allows you to run a hydration bladder hose like you would off a traditional bladder, while utilizing a bottle and a cage. Bladder is good for day hikes and such. Bonus! Aaaaaaand I can use my Osprey tube so it's like a straw. If you have just a bladder, it makes brushing your teeth a little difficult because you can't really rinse off the brush and you can't really rinse off your hands if need be. This is a difficult one. If your taking a nalgene for drink mixes and want to save space/weight you might get a small nalgene.I use mine quite often, it also fits in a cargo pocket.
