Family Suites We originally were booked for the Tropical Beach, but upgraded to the Palace. Saw fish as well as a barracuda and a turtle. There is usually some kind of discount, but these change from day to day depending on how busy the resort is. It was great for accommodating people that missed breakfast, missed lunch etc. The Mexican restaurant had a great poblano cream soup and the tenderloin at the Spanish restaurant was surprisingly tender and tasty! The ocean is clear blue and warm. the resort is 20 minutes from playa and costs you about $20 each way. You need to bring these yourself. !The grounds were prettier on the caribe and colonial sidesmore gardens etc. Two closets are also included with another mini-fridge and a safe for storing your valuables.Overall, the family suite felt very spacious and suited our family of four nicely. We would visit again. 1 King-size room or 2 double beds (subject to availability), Free minibar, replenished daily with soft drinks, water and beer, Minibar with daily bottle of water (free of charge). The food in the Coral Grill was kept in a separate air conditioned area apart from the seating area. Also, the buffets at the Tropical/Colonial offer more variety and much better food and are also air conditioned. We were impressed with their hurricane preparedness. If you are lucky you might just hit the right day when they are hatching. so by all means make sure you get some walks in around the whole complex. There are cenotes across the street from the resort (yes, walking distance). I just brought carry on bags so had to squeeze all my liquids for the 5 day trip into little tiny anti-terrorist size containers.you know the drillvery annoying.you cant get much sun bloc into those tiny containers and I needed to use every last drop that I broughtso thanks Barcelo for the Q-tips. I have stayed once at the Bahia Coba and once at the Grand Palladium White Sand. I am very noise sensitive so this was so great for me as I really needed to re-charge on this holiday and needed some major rest. They were very good and kept our rooms clean and fresh.Outside our room, the grounds keepers were always touching up the property. The walking was fine for us (it helped to burn off some of that good buffet food), but if you are willing to wait for the Barcelo bus, it is a short walk to the bus waiting area, and this can quickly get you wherever you wish to visit on the property. We later discovered that there are not very many of these family suites available on the property, so if you are interested in having some privacy from your kids, you will definitely want to book before they are snatched up by someone else.A review of Barcelo - the resort complex:Check-in:Super smooth. We are happy to report that there is privacy. It is worth the extra money you pay for the better food and restaurants at the Tropical/Colonial. I would not recommend either of these resorts for their beaches (rocky) and the snorkeling was not good. It was so melted that I didnt bother with it as it looked more like soup and did not look very appetizing. We invite you to visit our website to know the new Barcel Maya Beach.Kind regards. The seating area had windows that were opened so one had the benefit of food kept in sanitary conditions but being able to eat in the open air. A magnificent room with a hall/living room and master bedroom, decorated with comfortable and elegant furnishings, which also features beautiful views of the tropical gardens.Maximum room capacity: 5 people (possible combinations: 2 adults and 3 children; 3 adults and 2 children). They used to be $7now they are $15 each. The sheets and comforter were also very comfortable. You must have your own snorkeling gear and no bathrooms. I am a huge fan of the friendliness, warmth and service provided by the Mexican people and all that this area has to offer. On-site at the Barcelo Maya Palace guests can discover a large variety of amenities, including 7 different restaurants, a full-service spa and a nightclub. We experienced great weather and no lines for food or drinks. The room was average, however, the bed was fantastic! This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of TripAdvisor LLC. Our friends, who traveled with us and also booked a family suite have a family of five, and they agreed that having the privacy of the family suite was a great recipe for a relaxing vacation. Family Suite Layout: You enter the first room, and just to your right is a half bath (no shower or tub). I totally love my junky little white flour pancakes on holidays. Feel free to message me if you have questions. As I stepped out of the shuttle from the airport the only person I saw before I got to the front desk was one obviously harried bell boy who ran right by me without acknowledging me. The second room is what most would refer to as the Master Bedroom and it connects to the first room via a door off of the living room. Great palm trees for some shade in case the sun gets to be too much for you.Medical Services - Doctor:Our young son got sick with a sinus infection, and so we had to visit the doctor's facilities on property. While the buffet did not change much from day to day, it was okay because there was a great variety. We took the local bus into Playa Del Carma for $2 and some people in our group also took the local bus to Tulum. We were club premium because we had booked a family suite, so a hotel staff member was waiting for us when we arrived via our airport transfer. It will save you the trip of walking down to the dive shop to rent gear. The things I like most about Iberostar was that it was close to the airport (didn't have to spend much time traveling), the lush grounds, the shopping center with three restaurants (el pastor; ice cream crepes, and hamburger/hot dog joint), the outgoing employees who run the activities (I like participating in the activities), and the gigantic pool. It has a large building and waiting area. I am quite happy with just a cold beer rather than wine or a blender drink so I was in my glory with having nice cold mugs of beer. Three different cenotes to visit at Chikin-Ha. Beyond the living area is a balcony with an overlook of the gardens, which includes a table for relaxing outdoors and a towel rack for airing out your wet items. I wont return to either though as I am a beach person and I was very disappointed with the beaches at both the Bahia and Palladium.Comparable things between Iberostar Paraiso and Barcelo cleanliness, pools, food and beverage, both are large resorts with pretty surroundings and great if you like to walkIBEROSTAR BEST FOR: Service, Animals/Wildlife, Architecture/Decor, Security, Activities, Entertainment, PriceBARCELO BEST FOR: Beach (including snorkeling), Central Location for touring area sites, Ocean view dining, Food availabilityThings I enjoyed at the Barcelo The Good:Buffets all had ocean views and optional open air dining/air conditioned areas to sit in. After the housekeeping staff had cleaned the room I always loved sliding the bathroom doors open to behold my double raised marble sinks and all the little extra amenities they would leave, emery board, q-tips, razor & shave cream, toothbrush and toothpaste, bath salts, which were beyond the standard things like the sewing kit and the plastic shower cap. The suites were not described very well on the Barcelo website, and it has been hard to find information about them. Tiles were fixed if chipped, drain spouts were cleaned to prevent insects from brewing, the hallways were swept and mopped daily, lights fixed, grass trimmed, floors waxed and sealed, paint freshened, every detail was attended to. !Coffee was great.Things I didnt like at the Barcelo /Needs ImprovementThe place was strangely void of animals. The Body Light Spa also offers beach side and pool side massages. The dive shop offers three scuba packages, ranging in price from $170 to $395. Visited Chikin-Ha (one of 3 or 4 cenote parks located across the street from the resort). I did speak with one fellow at the Front Desk later in my stay who was actually friendly and helpful but the rest of them seemed kind of surly. The table service in the main buffet was hit and miss, mostly miss. I wish it would have been open for breakfast and dinner as well as the service was so much better here than at the main buffet. We enjoyed the Michael Jackson show as well as the shows where guests participated. On the other hand, the food, drinks and restaurants are much nicer and the food is much better at the Tropical/Colonial. Any of these travel agencies can book excursion travel for you, but do not expect a change in fee. Cancun International Airport is 79 km away. Pools:Spectacular and HUGE! The beach has a lot of rocks in the sand which a few of my friends have hurt themselves tripping over. When we woke the next morning, we were glad to see the storm passed by; not a trace of the storm was left behind. The food was average. I felt like a complete nobody when I checked in. Continue walking into the room and you will find two twin beds set up next to a snack bar with a coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge and an assortment of glassware, silverware, and plates (in case you want to dine in your room - we never did, but it is nice to have). There is no music anywhere unlesss they are doing a water aerobics class. Boasting instant beach access, numerous dining options and endless recreational activities, this family-friendly all-inclusive resort is situated in the Mayan Riviera and offers everything needed for a memorable stay. There was a "bubble" pool, kind of a like a jacuzzi but without all the heat. Warm items stayed warm. In fact, you get two rooms. One reason we chose the Barcelo Maya Palace is that they offer Family Suites. The second spa is located on the Palace resort, and so I am going to refer to it as the Palace Spa. Pool beds were fun. You could only pay at some with a credit card or charge it to your roomsome didnt take cashthats new! Beyond the living area is a balcony with an overlook of the gardens, which includes a table for relaxing outdoors and a towel rack for airing out your wet items. The same could be said for the housekeeping. Buyer bewarehave the prices ever gone up for these type of photos. Water was calm for the whole 5 days I was thereI was truly blessed as I came to SNORKEL! The French one was especially nice. The Palace Spa will allow you to charge services to your hotel room. The kids loved it. I'm not a big breakfast fan, so I usually ate nachos and churros and something crispy with cinnamon and sugar (located at the kid's food station). In regards to their specialty restaurants, we were allowed to have three experiences at two of their restaurants. At first we thought that this room was the hotel's excursion office, but it is just a place for other travel agencies like Delta Vacations and Lomas Travel or Apple Vacations, etc to sell excursions and arrange for airport transfers for their guests. The pool is huge and nice but it's always cold and the swim up bar is in the shade so you can't even sit under thereThe coco bar closes at 7pm so you can't even sit outside and have drinks. This was handy to grab an herbal tea en route back to my room at night.okay and maybe a few cookies as wellhee..hee.If you like snorkeling definitely bring your own equipment as lots of on site snorkeling opportunities here. We were club premium and that gave us an advantage in getting reservations, but even still we were not able to get into every restaurant we wanted at the specific times that we wanted. She was also able to prescribe antibiotics, and he was able to improve. There is a wide variety of food to eat: steaks, traditional Mexican, Italian, ample salad bar, breads, and desserts. Overall, the food's own flavors and tastes were enhanced but not drenched in spices - we were able to enjoy what was best in the food without it being too mooshy, overcooked, or undercooked. Food and restaurants much better at the Tropical/Colonial. In fact, you get two rooms. As at all resorts they come around with monkeys, parrots, etc and take your picture with them at the beach if you like. There were some nice Mexican paintings in the Lobbybut there just didnt seem to be a theme in the lobby. The medical services is available 24 hours.X-tra Tips for a relaxing stay.Despite being club premium, not everything is free. Dave (Owner's grandson) and Juan (tour guide) were very nice. We were asked to stay in our room from 11 PM through the morning; anything that could fly away was put away; hurricane shutters were used; patio furniture was brought inside. If you call the number, you will connect with the Palace Spa and NOT the Body Light spa. I love this resort! If you can, bring your own snorkel gear and flippers. Would we go back again? If you are a resident of another country or region, please select the appropriate version of Tripadvisor for your country or region in the drop-down menu. The security guy at the entrance to the Barcelo didnt even ask my name or what room I was inhe just wanted to see my wristband which I flashed him from the back seat of the carit was pretty dark he would have hardly been able to see it. Service was prompt and efficient, and they fixed the problem with the television no problems. We did ultimately get in where we wanted to eat, but noted when we got there that the restaurants are not overly huge. the lobby where you can drink is indoors and so are all the restaurants..the club jaguars is in the other resort as well..AND, don't order the room service..it is horrible. We stayed at the Barcelo Caribe from Nov. 7, 2010 through Nov. 14, 2010. The suites were not described very well on the Barcelo website, and it has been hard to find information about them. This is the version of our website addressed to speakers of English in the United States. I thought the lobby was almost to the point of being ugly dcor wise and very uninteresting architecturally. Must be a much better manager at the Coral Grill as the service there was so much better. Beyond the living area is a balcony with an overlook of the gardens, which includes a table for relaxing outdoors and a towel rack for airing out your wet items. The view from the family suite balcony is nice, but not especially fantastic; you are far from the beach and must walk quite a distance to get to most activities, such as the pool, beach, lobby, restaurants, etc.
